The client has a new name, NX Player, and a completely revamped GUI. The redesigned GUI
and utility toolbar, the NX toolbar, provides access to services and
functionalities throughout the life of the session, and also allows the user to change session
settings and visualization mode on the fly.
Services and Functionalities
NX 4 provides new functionalities such as file transfer and USB forwarding over
the network and makes it easier to activate services such as printing and the
mounting of local shared resources within the session.
Printers installed on the client are now transparently available to applications
running in the session, making printing hassle-free. What's more, printing support
is now bidirectional. Users can browse local or remote folders, choose
a file which will be automatically converted to PDF format, transferred to the
remote side if located locally and sent to the selected printer.
Sharing local folders can also be carried out at any moment, and USB
forwarding over the network can be activated on demand to share local devices
(pendrives, webcams, barcode readers and so on) on the server side and vice-versa.
As well as these funtionalities, the utility toolbar allows the user to control audio
and voice settings as well as manage the recording and playing of a session video.
Settings and performances
Although NX applies the default settings most suitable for that kind of session and
link type, it is now possible to modify the session settings at any time by means of the
utility toolbar. For example, image and video compression type and quality can be
configured in order to obtain the best performance with specific network conditions
or running applications without the need to restart the session.
View modes for the session
The session window is fully resizable on all platforms, and the NX toolbar
offers the option to zoom in on the session, scale its content or activate the
viewport navigation.
With collaborative sessions, it is also possible to show or hide the cursor
of the main session.
