MontaVista Software shortens sales cycle with NoMachine NX.
About the Company
MontaVista Software, Inc. is the leader in embedded Linux commercialization. MontaVista helps embedded developers get
the most out of open source by adding commercial quality, integration, hardware enablement, expert support, and the
resources of the MontaVista development community. Because MontaVista customers enjoy faster time to market, more
competitive device functionality, and lower total cost, more devices have been deployed with MontaVista than with any
other embedded Linux solution.
The Challenge
Many of MontaVista's potential customers are embedded developers who can spend hundreds of hours annually evaluating
software. Like many software suppliers, MontaVista came to NoMachine wishing to shorten their software evaluation and
sales cycle. The key was for their customers to be able to test drive the full capabilities of MontaVista Linux
Professional Edition and DevRocket developer tools online, without the need for lengthy software installations, license
management set-up, or long waits for product shipments and downloads. MontaVista wanted their developer customers to be
able to create and run their own test applications to determine the compatibility of MontaVista's software within their
environment.
The Solution
After careful consideration, MontaVista Software chose NoMachine as their remote access solution because of the strength
of the NX test driving suite. In MontaVista's case, that suite included NX Enterprise Desktop and NX Web Companion.
Together, they were able to provide a real-time user experience that allowed MontaVista's customers to test the full
capabilities of their developer tools, with no compromise in session reliability. The TestDrive experience was made possible
through the technology of NX Web Companion, a tiny Java applet and plugin for any browser that easily integrates into a
company’s website, giving users one-click-access to applications made available on the NX Server. The Web Companion was able
to help MontaVista Software give multiple, simultaneous users secure and remote access to a virtual server running MontaVista
Linux. Without creating security risks or compromising MontaVista's applications, the MontaVista TestDrive solution, supported
by NX, perfectly simulates the real user application experience for MontaVista customers.
Results
By taking the TestDrive, MontaVista's customers are now able to evaluate their applications on MontaVista's developer tools
and operating system, using their choice of processor architecture, and shortening their project cycles. In addition,
geographically dispersed departments are able to simultaneously evaluate this software, without the need for downloads,
installations, CD-ROMs, or on-site visits. As a result, customers are able to make software decisions in days instead of months,
shortening the sales cycle for MontaVista.
Vice President of Marketing for MontaVista, Joerg Bertholdt, says "MontaVista's TestDrive gives developers the ability to
virtually evaluate MontaVista products for embedded designs at their leisure. TestDrive provides a faster start of projects,
a faster sales cycle, better evaluation, and saves the customer money. NoMachine NX technology provides a secure way to access
the virtual evaluation environment remotely over the Internet."
