1. NoMachine Enterprise Client Installation Guide

This Welcome to the NoMachine Enterprise Client Installation Guide version 4 or higher. This document is intended to provide you with step-by-step instructions on how to install, update or remove the NoMachine Enterprise Client software on your system.

2. Prerequisites

Operating System

  • Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1 at 32 bit and 64 bit.
  • Intel 64-bit Mac OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8/10.9/10.10

Hardware Requirements (recommended)
The software is designed to work on computers with minimal HW requirements. Although the software may work with inferior CPUs or reduced RAM, for best performance NoMachine recommends you match the listed requirements.

  • Intel Core2 Duo or AMD Athlon Dual-Core or
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Windows: 61.5 MB free disk space
    Mac OS X: 55 MB free disk space 
    Linux: 45 MB free disk space
  • Network connection (either a LAN, or Internet link: broadband, cable, DSL, etc...)

3. NoMachine Enterprise Client on Windows

 

3.1. Installing the EXE Packages

Download the NoMachine Enterprise Client EXE package from the NoMachine web site and double click on the package icon: the Setup wizard will take you through the installation.

The client can be installed without administrative privileges, in this case support for some device services like USB forwarding will be not available.


Tip for administrators - Installing the client in silent or verysilent mode

To install the client package on the user's machine in silent or very silent mode, run from a DOS shell:

>nomachine-enterprise-client-<version>.exe /silent or
>nomachine-enterprise-client-<version>.exe /verysilent

To specify a non-default installation directory, use:

>nomachine-enterprise-client-<version>.exe /SILENT /DIR="X:Target_directory"

or:

>nomachine-enterprise-client-<version>.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR="X:Target_directory"

 

3.2. Updating NoMachine Enterprise Client

Starting from version 4.0.365, you can update your installation from our repositories instead of downloading and installing the new package. Just run the NoMachine GUI from your Programs Menu, access the 'Change player settings' panel and the 'Software update' GUI from there. Then click on the 'Updates' button.

Alternatively, you may download the lastest available package from the NoMachine web site and click on the executable file to launch Setup. As for the installation, Setup will guide you through all steps necessary for updating your installation.

 

3.3. Uninstalling NoMachine Enterprise Client

Uninstall NoMachine Enterprise Client from the Windows Control Panel and the Add or Remove Programs in Windows XP or Program and Features in Windows Vista , 7 or 8. Look for the NoMachine Enterprise Client program in the list of installed programs and choose to uninstall it.


On Windows 8, use the Search box from the Charms bar on the right side of the screen and type 'Control Panel' to open it. Then access the Programs - Uninstall a program panel.


On Windows 7, Vista and XP, click on the Start button and click to open the Control panel from the Start menu. Then access panel 'Programs and Features' or 'Add or Remove Programs', depending on your Windows version.

 

4. Installation on OS X

 

4.1. Installing the NoMachine Enterprise Client on OS X

Download the NoMachine Enterprise Client DMG package from the NoMachine web site and double click on the package icon to mount the disk image. Next double-click on the package to install it; the Installer will take you through the installation.


Tip for administrators - Installing the package from command line
To install the client package on the user's machine, from an xterm or similar, move to the directory where you have downloaded the package. Mount the disk image:

$ hdiutil mount nomachine-enterprise-client_version.dmg

Now, you should have a "NoMachine" directory in your /Volumes directory.  Move there:

$ cd /Volumes/NoMachine/

and execute as privileged user the following command to install the package:

$ sudo installer -pkg NoMachine.pkg -target /

 

4. 2. Updating the Installation

Starting from version 4.0.365, you can update your installation from our repositories instead of downloading and installing the new package. Just run the NoMachine GUI from your Programs Menu, access the 'Change player settings' panel and the 'Software update' GUI from there. Then click on the 'Updates' button.

Alternatively, you may download the lastest available package from the NoMachine web site and click on the DMG file to mount the disk image and launchthe Installer. As for the installation, Installer will guide you through all steps necessary to update your installation.

 

4.3. Uninstalling NoMachine Enterprise Client

To uninstall, drag and drop NoMachine from Applications to the trash or select 'Move to trash' from the mouse button menu.

 

5. Installation on Linux

Depending on which Linux distribution you are using, download the NoMachine Enterprise Client DEB or the RPM package from the NoMachine web site and double click on the package icon to install it using your installation program.

As an alternative, you can install, update or uninstall from command line by running commands from an xterm or similar with the sudo utility or as a root user if you don't have sudo installed. Instructions below refers to this second option.

Starting from version 4.0.365, you can update your installation from our repositories instead of downloading and installing the new package. Just run the NoMachine GUI from your Programs Menu, access the 'Change player settings' panel and the 'Software update' GUI from there. Then click on the 'Updates' button.

Up to version 4.4.6, all packages were qualified by the same name 'nomachine'. Next versions use different package names to distinguish among client, node and server types (FR09L02829). The package name for the client is: nomachine-enterprise-client.

 

5.1. Installing, Updating or Uninstalling DEB Package

To install to default location, namely /usr/NX

Installing
$ sudo dpkg -i nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.deb

Updating
$ sudo dpkg -i nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.deb

Uninstalling
$ sudo dpkg -r nomachine-enterprise-client


For versions up to 4.4.6, use:

$ sudo dpkg -r nomachine

Tip

To find out which NoMachine package you have installed, run the following command:

$ dpkg -l | grep nomachine



To install to a non-default location, for example /opt/NX

Installing
$ sudo NX_INSTALL_PREFIX=/opt dpkg -i nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.deb

Updating
$ sudo NX_INSTALL_PREFIX=/opt dpkg -i nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.deb

Uninstalling
$ sudo dpkg -r nomachine-enterprise-client

or for versions up to 4.4.6:

$ sudo dpkg -r nomachine

 

5.2. Installing, Updating or Uninstalling RPM Package

To install to the default location, namely /usr/NX

Installing
# rpm -ivh nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.rpm

Updating
# rpm -Uvh nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.rpm

Uninstalling
# rpm -e nomachine-enterprise-client


For versions up to 4.4.6, use:

# rpm -e nomachine


Tip

To find out which NoMachine package you have installed, run the following command:

# rpm -qa | grep nomachine


To install to a non-default location, for example /opt/NX

Installing
# rpm -ivh nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.rpm --prefix /opt

Updating
# rpm -Uvh nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.rpm --prefix /opt

Uninstalling
# rpm -e nomachine-enterprise-client

or for versions up to 4.4.6:

# rpm -e nomachine

 

5.3. Installing, Updating or Uninstalling TAR.GZ Package

To install to the default location /usr/NX ensure that package is placed there.

Installing
$ cd /usr
$ sudo tar xvzf nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.tar.gz
$ sudo /usr/NX/nxclient --install

Updating
$ cd /usr
$ sudo tar xvzf nomachine-enterprise-client_<pkgVersion>_<arch>.tar.gz
$ sudo /usr/NX/nxclient --update

Uninstalling
$ sudo /usr/NX/scripts/setup/nxclient --uninstall

To remove the installation dir:
$ sudo rm -rf /usr/NX


To install to a non-default location, for example /opt/NX:

extract the archive, for example in /usr/NX, and then use the following commands

Installing
$ sudo NX_INSTALL_PREFIX=/opt /usr/NX/nxclient --install

Updating
$ sudo NX_INSTALL_PREFIX=/opt /usr/NX/nxclient --update

Uninstalling
$ sudo /opt/NX/scripts/setup/nxclient --uninstall

To remove the installation dir:
$ sudo rm -rf /opt/NX
