A static lock screen or black screen is presented when connecting to a Windows 10 headless host

When users connect to NoMachine on a headless Windows 10 host, the screen is black or shows a static lock screen where nothing is updated (e.g. the clock time).

This issue is triggered by a recent Windows 10 update which introduces a change in the way how screen capturing works: the Desktop Duplication API now does not return valid frames when no monitor is physically attached.

As a temporary workaround, you may attach a monitor or a HDMI Dummy Plug adapter or similar to the NoMachine server machine.

Note that in some cases when the monitor is disconnected or turned off, the GPU doesn't make the render of images and this could cause unexpected behaviors like incorrect scaling of images and icons and more.
