NoMachine and MontaVista Join Forces to Roll Out New Advanced TestDrive Feature

Linux vendor uses NoMachine software to create virtualized product evaluations
2007-11-20 by: Katie Glossner

Rome, November 19, 2007 - NoMachine, leading and award-winning provider of enterprise-class solutions for secure remote access, desktop virtualization, and hosted desktop deployment announced today that it has entered into an agreement with the leading provider of Linux for intelligent devices and communications infrastructure, MontaVista Software, Inc.

The collaboration involves the new MontaVista TestDrive program, which uses NoMachine's NX technology to offer customers a secure online evaluation of MontaVista's embedded Linux operating software and the MontaVista DevRocket integrated development environment (IDE). TestDrive's virtual environment allows developers to fully test the capabilities of MontaVista Linux Professional Edition before making a design or purchase decision. This remote evaluation capability is made available via NoMachine's NX technology.

After registration and screening, users are allowed to download NoMachine NX Client on any PC via the NX Web Companion. This is a small browser Java applet and plugin easily integrated into the corporate Intranet to give users one-click-access to MontaVista applications made available on the NX Server. NX Client, once transparently downloaded, allows users to start NX sessions and get quick and easy access to the MontaVista Linux operating system and the IDE. The user can test their applications in a virtual MontaVista Linux environment which ensures they get the full experience of the Linux operating system and the DevRocket IDE before coming to a final decision.

“As more and more enterprises look to the advantages of hosted applications and virtual environments, they need to provide efficient connectivity combined with user-friendly technology,” says Sarah Dryell, Business Development Manager of NoMachine. “NoMachine NX is the perfect vehicle to distribute MontaVista Linux and DevRocket across the network to dispersed evaluators. We are particularly excited to be collaborating with such a pioneer of open source solutions.”

The lengthy processes of installing software, license management set up, and waiting for product  downloads has now been eliminated. The waiting game is over. Developers can now create and run their own test applications with the ease and speed of NX Client to determine if MontaVista will fit and work for their environment needs. The MontaVista TestDrive program, using NX Enterprise Desktop, allows customers to retrieve applications quickly and evaluate them efficiently in their own time and at their own pace.

“MontaVista' s TestDrive gives developers the ability to virtually evaluate MontaVista products for embedded designs at their leisure,” says Joerg Bertholdt, Director of Marketing, Embedded Platform for MontaVista Software. “TestDrive provides a faster start of projects, a faster sales cycle, better evaluation, and saves the customer money. NoMachine NX technology provides a secure way to access the virtual evaluation environment remotely over the Internet.”
