Start your journey to the next level of network computing
Setting up a NoMachine VPN enhances your online privacy and security without the need for relying on third party VPN software. All NoMachine clients come with the possibility to start a VPN connection. A NoMachine VPN can be created over IP or with the server's Machine Id if it's available on Network. On the server side, in order to create the VPN tunnel, any of the Enterprise products can be installed. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up a VPN connection and how you can configure it to your needs.
- Install any of the Enterprise products on your computer. The enterprise server editions include the VPN server component which accepts incoming requests for VPN connections.
- Once you've installed your chosen product, the VPN is already on. There is nothing else to do.
- Now move to the device you want to connect from and install any NoMachine edition.
- Open NoMachine on the device you are connecting from.
- Select 'Add' and then 'Add a VPN connection'. The default VPN configuration is to start the connection with 'Allow remote LAN access and route the traffic to the Internet through it'.
- If the server you need to connect to is on NoMachine Network, you can use its Machine Id to connect. Otherwise, you can use the remote server’s public IP address or hostname.
- Input the remote host's Id.

- Click Add.
- Go back to Machines and you can see the VPN connection in your roster. It's identified with a green shield.
- If you are using the Machine Id to start your VPN connection, log in to NoMachine Network now. You don’t need to log into NoMachine Network to connect using the server’s IP address.
- Now you are ready to start the VPN connection. You will need account credentials on the remote machine in order to authenticate to the NoMachine server correctly.

- Double-click to start the VPN connection and insert valid system account credentials when prompted.
- The VPN connection has started and is running.

- When the VPN connection is running, the icon in the system tray will show a little badge.
- You can also check the VPN status and disconnect it by entering the menu of the system tray.

- As mentioned above, when starting a new VPN connection, the default setting is to start with the following option: 'Allow remote LAN access and route the traffic to the Internet through it'. This means that all internet traffic will be re-routed through NoMachine VPN’s server (so your IP address will show publicly as the IP address of the remote server) and you will also be able to access machines on the remote LAN of the Enterprise VPN server.
- To change this setting, right click the VPN icon in Machines and enter 'Edit connection' and select Configuration.
- Change it according to your needs.
