Getting Started with Web Access

Start your journey to the next level of network computing

All products from the NoMachine for the Enterprise suite provide access via Web to let you work on your remote desktop from anywhere without installing additional software. All that is required is a simple Web browser on the device you are connecting from. Read on to learn how to remotely access the desktop via the browser.

Install the Enterprise Software

  • Make sure that a product from any of the Enterprise Desktop, Cloud Server and Terminal Server families is installed on the remote computer you want to access. Once installed, Web access is already configured and ready to use out-of-the-box. For more details about installation and configuration for your specific product, please see the guides here: https//www.nomachine.com/documents.
  • To be able to login to the computer remotely you need to have a valid user account on it which consists of a username and password.
  • One of the ways you can connect is by using the private or public-facing IP address or host name of the server. You can check this in NoMachine's settings, in 'Server status', of the machine you want to connect to. If you don’t have this information, or your server is behind a firewall or NAT, you can still reach your desktop through the browser using NoMachine Network, the new subscription service for all NoMachine users. In that case, go to the section "Connect to your desktop through NoMachine Network" just below. If you are using the IP address/hostname, scroll further down.

Run a Web session through NoMachine Network

  • The remote Enterprise host must first be published on NoMachine Network. Follow the instructions here on how to add your machine to Network. Doing so gives your machine a Machine Id which is what you need to reach any 'NoMachine Network-enabled computer'.
  • To connect to the Enterprise machine using the Network sevice, you will need to create a NoMachine Account and have a Network Subscription.
  • Go to connect.nomachine.com and insert the Machine Id.
  • Login with your NoMachine account when requested in order to access the NoMachine Network service.
  • Insert the Access Id of your Network machine
  • Insert your system account credentials and click OK.
  • You can also use a pre-configured file, what we call a link file, to connect using your browser. A link file permits users without NoMachine installed to start a Web session using the configuration saved in the file. Opening a link file triggers the default browser to open and start the connection. For more about this please see section ‘Make a copy of a web-based connection’ in the tutorial Getting Started with Web-Access from the Player.
  • Now proceed to the section "You are connected to your remote desktop".

Connect through the browser using the IP address or hostname

  • If you prefer to connect using the IP address of the remote machine, point your browser to https://servername:4443 where 'servername' is either the host name or IP address of the remote PC or Mac you want to reach (Fig. 2).
  • As mentioned, you need a username and password to be able to log in to the remote computer. Check with your Administrator what these are if you are not sure.
