Managing the NoMachine Server Settings

Start your journey to the next level of network computing

NoMachine products install with default settings which fit most remote access scenarios. When you install a NoMachine server, such as the Free Edition or one of the Enterprise products, you may wish to tune the software to fit your specific needs, such as configuring security aspects for desktop sharing, enabling or disabling shared devices, configuring ports or setting performance-related options and so forth. This is done in the NoMachine 'Server settings' which is reachable in two ways. Read on to find out how.

From the !M icon in the system tray

  • Go to the NoMachine-enabled computer that you want to remotely access.
  • Click on the '!M' icon in the computer's system tray.
  • Select 'Show server status' (Fig. 1).
Access server preferences via the NoMachine monitor icon

  • You are now in 'Server settings' for the NoMachine server host (Fig. 2).
  • From here you can configure all aspects of NoMachine running on the remote computer. This includes network protocol settings, file transfer management, how you receive software updates, disabling access, screen blanking and much more. For full details about NoMachine's server settings and services, check out the Guide to the NoMachine Server User Interface.
If the !M icon isn't showing, you can access settings via the Player
