Sharing Files Between Computers with NoMachine

Start your journey to the next level of network computing

Photos, music and documents are quickly shared between local and remote computers, including from attached USB devices. You can transfer files easily and securely between the local and remote desktop through firewalls, and we don't place any limitations on the size of files you want to transfer. To send files in either direction, you will need NoMachine installed on both computers. Read on to find out how to send and grab files.

How to transfer files from the remote computer

  • Start a connection from your computer or device to the remote computer you want to access. If necessary, consult the Getting Started Guide on how to start a NoMachine connection to the remote desktop.
  • Click on the !M icon on the remote desktop to bring up the menu.

  • Click on 'Transfer a file'.
  • Click on 'Download file from the server'.

  • The file explorer of the remote machine will pop up to allow you to navigate the folders.
  • Select the file you want to transfer (Fig. 3) and confirm.

  • The file explorer of your local computer will pop up to ask you where you want to save the file which you are about to transfer (Fig. 4).
  • Choose the folder and save it.

  • You're done. File transfer complete!
  • You can now access the newly transferred file on your local computer by selecting 'Show transfer status' from the !M system tray icon (Fig. 5).

Transfer a file to the remote computer

  • Start a connection from your device to the remote computer.
  • Click on the !M icon on the remote desktop to bring up the menu (Fig. 6).

  • Click on 'Transfer a file'.
  • Click on 'Upload file from the client' (Fig. 7).

  • The local file explorer will pop up to allow you to navigate the folders (Fig. 8).
  • Select the file you want to transfer to the remote desktop and confirm.

  • The file explorer of the remote computer will pop up to ask you where you want to save the file which you are about to transfer (Fig. 9).
  • Choose the destination folder for the file you are transferring and save.

  • You're done. File transfer complete!
  • You can now access the newly transferred file by selecting 'Show transfer status' from the !M system tray icon on the remote computer (Fig. 10).
