Recording the Remote or Local Desktop with NoMachine
Start your journey to the next level of network computing
NoMachine permits screen-recording which is freely available in all its products on all platforms. When you are connected to the remote computer, recording the remote desktop can be initiated from within the session from any NoMachine client, including Enterprise Client and the app for mobile. If you have a NoMachine server product installed on your computer, it's also possible to capture activity happening on the local desktop. Read on to know how to record the local and remote desktop activity.
- Open the NoMachine program on your connecting client.
- Start a remote desktop connection to your NoMachine-enabled computer.
- Use the shortcut Ctrl-Alt-R to show the recording bar.
- It's also possible to access 'Recording' via the session menu using Ctrl-Alt-0 and selecting 'Show the recording bar'.
- Click the red button to start recording.

- Click 'Stop' to cease recording.
- You will be prompted to select where to save the file.
- Click on the !M icon in your local desktop's system tray (Fig. 4).
- Select 'Show recording bar'.
- Click the red button to start recording.
- Click 'Stop' to cease recording.
- You will be prompted to select where to save the file.

- All recordings are stored as .nxr files to the local computer for easy storage and can be played back using the NoMachine Player.
- Any recordings available on the local device are made available in the Machines panel.
- You can even load recording files to the Machines panel of the Player using the 'Load a configuration or recording file' tool. Check out the tutorial here to learn how to do that.
