Creating alliances that deliver value

Commerce Corporation

A lawn and garden distributor finds that switching from their leading remote access publishing product to NX enables them to remotely connect their 250 employees at a fraction of the cost.

NoMachine NX helps Commerce Corporation expand geographically with remote access.
About the Company
Commerce Corporation is the leading distributor for the best, nationally known manufacturers in the lawn and garden industry. Founded in the 1920's as a small family business, Commerce has since grown into a premier supplier of exclusive products and value-added services with more than 250 employees. The largest and most complete lawn and garden trade shows in the industry are hosted by Commerce, with over 400 vendors and 1600 customers in attendance. In 2007, Commerce was voted the number one distributor trade show in the industry by the Lawn and Garden Marketing and Distribution Association (LGMDA).
The Challenge
Commerce Corporation wanted to provide their 250-plus employees with remote access, but the high licensing and subscription cost of their existing solution was prohibitive. They needed a more cost-effective solution to make remote access available to their geographically dispersed sales reps, supporting their business expansion strategies. While Commerce could have simply set up a TCP connection for remote employees to telnet in, their sales reps traditionally connected through aircards and dial-up modems. Commerce knew they needed a solution that would provide them with a terminal that could be resumed when the line went down.
The Solution
NoMachine NX was able to give Commerce this stability at a lower cost than their former remote access solution, because of its considerably less expensive subscription price. Furthermore, NX Enterprise Server could enable hundreds of simultaneous user connections, without compromising session reliability - an issue with Commerce’s previous solution. This speedier remote access that NX provides allows Commerce employees to work from remote locations at a pace that rivals that of the office.

In addition, the less-expensive subscription cost of NX Enterprise Server has enabled Commerce Corporation to expand their business geographically by making NX technology available to all their traveling sales reps. The NoMachine NX Enterprise Server Subscription allows an unlimited number of employees to access their Windows XP or Ubuntu environments through the NX Client by connecting to Commerce’s main server. Currently, 150 of Commerce's employees throughout the country use NX to access Commerce’s RHEL 5 operating system along with xterm, GNOME-terminal, and Firefox applications, but NX has the potential to add hundreds of user connections.
Results
Commerce Corporation is pleased with the capacity that NoMachine NX has to not only support employees working in far-flung places, but also support the expansion of their business. As Commerce’s Application Developer, Steve Romanow, says, "NoMachine has been flexible enough to provide numerous implementation choices. As we expand our business, I am confident that NoMachine will continue to provide us with the most cost effective, well managed, remote access anywhere we need it through their amazing NX technology."
